It’s a new year, and that means it’s a clean slate with earning points. All your past mistakes of forgetting to pull the right card out for 3, 4 or 5X points are forgiven. You never want to miss out on huge bonus points when making a purchase, and Chase has a variety of new offers for 2021 designed to tempt you to pull out your Chase credit card.
Chase Limited Time Spending Offers
Chase has rolled out a variety of limited time spending offers to its own cards, as well as a wide variety of its co-branded card portfolio, like the British Airways Visa, World Of Hyatt Card, Marriott Bonvoy, IHG, United Card and more.
This means that for a limited time, mostly geared around the first three months of the year, you can earn extra points for various activities with each card. Here’s the round up of all the offers, so you can be sure to know which card offers the best rebate on your 2021 spending.
Chase Sapphire Preferred And Reserve
Both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Sapphire Reserve cards feature slight bumps in earning for the first quarter of 2021, with 2X and 3X respectively on grocery spending up to $1,000 a month – aka 3,000 points per month.
That’s not nearly as attractive as the current Amex Platinum offer, bringing 10X on U.S. Supermarket spending during your first 6 months of card membership – aka 10,000 points per $1000 in spending – but if you’re in with Chase, 3X points with the Sapphire Reserve is excellent return on grocery spend.
In a “good to know” the Chase Sapphire Reserve $300 annual travel credit also works for gas and grocery spending for the time being, so even if you’re not traveling, you’ll get 3X, and the first $300 this year might end up being gratis, if you use all your annual ‘travel’ credit.
British Airways, Aer Lingus or Iberia Visa Card
Chase is offering 15,000 Avios as a bonus on $5,000 in spending before March 31st, 2021 with the British Airways Card. This is a significant chunk of Avios Points, which should be enough for a short domestic US flight, or a similarly short flight virtually anywhere in the world, with the Oneworld alliance, or on British Airways.
World Of Hyatt Card
Chase and Hyatt are offering 5,000 bonus points, enough for a one night stay at some hotels, as a bonus just from $3,000 in spending on the World Of Hyatt Card before March 31st, 2021. While 5,000 points might not move the needle with some hotel currencies, with World of Hyatt it does.
5X Gas & Groceries For United, IHG, Marriott
The United Airlines, IHG Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy credit cards from Chase typically offer 1 point per dollar spent on gas and groceries, but for a limited time, through March 31st, they’re bumping the earning to 5X (4 bonus points per dollar), on up to $1500 in spending.
This is a solid way to clock in 7,500 points in any of those currencies with a relatively small ($1500) in combined spending between the two categories. Simply click the program names above to head directly to the registration link to register your card for 5X. And yes, you do need to register for these offers!
Register For These Limited Time Offers
In each case, you’ll need to register for these offers, which is why it’s handy to know about them, right? Once registered, bonus points should begin to trigger, and you’ll go from earning 1 point per dollar on certain purchases to 5, or get a nice chunk of bonus points once you complete some spending.
It’s great to see banks ramping up spending offers. Big points bonuses to sign up for a card are great, but great reasons to keep a card are vital.

I enjoy your column each morning and when travel becomes safe for older travelers we will use some of the things that you publish. Wish your column would have been published last 25 years.
That’s incredibly kind, thank you!
My MB card was activated for the offer with your link within the article but for some reason the offer won’t activate for husbands. I will log into his Chase account and see if the offer is there.
Thanks for the heads up of these offers.
