If Hawaii is your spot, this is your year…

Sometimes there’s news so noteworthy, it changes the travel landscape. When Southwest officially starts selling flights to Hawaii, it’s will truly transform the air travel landscape between mainland US cities and Hawaii. This year has already seen a huge dip in flight prices to the beautiful islands, but if Southwest has anything to do with it, the next few months are going to drive prices way lower.

New Hawaii Flights

One look at the Nā Pali coast and you’re hooked. Hawaii is a land of endless beauty, and without the need to go through customs, it’s one of the easiest accessible destinations for US travelers. For the first time in a long time, a major new competitor will enter the flight landscape from mainland cities to Hawaii, pushing American, Alaska, Delta, Hawaiian and United to compete on price, more than ever.

Southwest Enters

Southwest is strongly rumored to be launching their new direct Hawaii flights in the imminent future, after success test flights. That means prices are going to drop at a level inversely proportionate to the amount you’ll be spending on flowers. And we’re not just talking about Southwest pricing either. When one airline offers crazy low introductory prices, others tend to follow.

The Routes To Follow

Southwest is launching flights to Kauai, Honolulu, Maui and Kona from Oakland, San Jose, San Diego and Sacremento, but this will put pressure on other airlines to offer great prices from even East Coast cities. You just won’t know what you may find unless you take a serious look. And you should! Hawaii flights have dropped from the $500’s to as low as $299 this year, and this big launch could bring that number even lower.

  1. You’re the man Gib – thanks for the heads up.

We have a £1k INV-LAX return in J coming up in April, I’d be happy sticking with the West Coast, but my better half wants to tag on a trip to Hawaii – will get keep an eye out tomorrow.

Still can’t find much by the way of hotel deals – expensive couple of Islands – and hard to compete in the land of the points.

    1. Can’t vouch for the quality, but the Courtyard King Kamehameha’s is 25k points/night, and Marriott still offers 5th night free on points bookings.
