For many people, the points game never seemed worth it. Too much red tape, too complicated, your pick. But with travel at a standstill, amazing opportunities to use points everywhere and many travelers aiming to hold onto more cash than usual, it’s a great time to get involved.

Intercontinental Hotels Group, aka IHG has two fantastic offers for current members, and new members alike, both of which bring generous free nights, and fast…

Stay Twice, Get A Free Night For New Members

If you haven’t already signed up to the IHG Rewards Program, home of Kimpton, Intercontinental, Six Senses, Regent, Crowne Plaza and lots of other famous brands, you should.

New sign ups using this link before September 30th, who complete two stays in the USA before before January 31st, 2020, can earn a free night, worth up to 40,000 points. That amount of points can cover some lovely hotels, and considering you could earn it with just two separate one night stays – separated by at least a night – it’s a small ask.

IHG has fantastic flexible cancellation policies and other reservation confidence moves in place, so it’s worth checking out the latest info, before booking a new stay.

Free Night For IHG Ambassador Program, And More

IHG isn’t just wooing new members, it’s rewarding clever travellers who’ve joined the Intercontinental Ambassador Program, which brings benefits at Intercontinental Hotels around the world, and includes built in elite guest status.

For anyone who enrols or renews in the IHG Ambassador Program before November 15th, 2020, and completes at least one stay at a Intercontinental, Kimpton, or Regent Hotel on a qualifying rate – aka paid rate directly with the hotel or IHG – you’ll also earn a free night worth up to 40,000 points. Yep, one stay, free night!

The free night must be redeemed by April 31st, 2021. In addition to the solid renewal or sign up perks, the following benefits will apply to all Intercontinental Ambassadors, according to IHG…

In addition to all Ambassador benefits at InterContinental, this year and in 2021, members will enjoy the following exclusive benefits at Kimpton and Regent hotels*:

Complimentary Weekend Night valid at Kimpton and Regent hotels globally–any day of the week– from July 30, 2020 – December 31, 2021 (*excluding Greater China)

Ambassador on-property benefits honored at Regent hotels from July 30, 2020 – December 31, 2021 (*excluding Greater China)

IHG Rewards Club

GSTP Take

It’s great to see a loyalty program rewarding brand enthusiasts in tandem with any efforts to attract new business. Too often it’s only about bringing new life into a program, and not about rewarding people who already engage.

A free night after just two stays is very attractive, and if the free nights are deposited at points, even better. The free night for Intercontinental, Regent or Kimpton makes the Ambassador program (read up here) a really useful offer.

  1. IHG program (even with the $200. Ambassador status) is a useless NO GO program for most frequent travellers i know. my colleagues and I never stay at IHG except if nothing else available.
The comp breakfast for 2 , comp upgrade and lounge access at marriots and hiltons with high level status is worth 100+ per night minimum. why would anyone even consider IHG??
