Luxury hotels. It’s hard not to be impressed by the experience they provide and the service they offer. There’s just something about feeling totally comfortable and taken care of when traveling that makes the whole trip just that little bit better.
That’s why we’re excited about InterContinental’s latest promo offer: Book 2 nights and get a 3rd night free. That alone is exciting but you can make this even better if you have the Citi Prestige.
Let’s take a look at how you can get the most out of this promo.
The Club InterContinental Deal
Beyond the basics of paying for 2 nights and getting 3 nights, here’s what you need to know about this deal.
There are 59 participating hotels spread across Africa, Asia Pacific, Australasia/Oceania, and the Middle East. Only Club InterContinental room, suites and villas are eligible. The maximum stay length is 6 nights. If you book 6 nights, you would actually get 2 free nights, so this can also be a “book 4, get 2” deal if you so choose.
To take advantage of the promo, you must book your stay by March 10, 2019, but you can stay between March 1 and December 31, 2019, so there are plenty of dates that can work.
While the deal is based on the best flexible rate, you will be required to make a non-refundable payment for one night at the time of booking.
To check rates, you can start from the InterContinental promo page and your search results will automatically show the promo options. In the search results, you’ll see a note on rooms eligible for the promo rate that says “Extend A Night On Us available”.
Stack With Citi Prestige 4th-Night Free Benefit
The Citi Prestige will continue to offer the 4th-night free benefit until September 1, 2019 — at which points you’ll have to book through the Citi Travel Center and this kind of thing won’t work — so we strongly suggest you make use of it while you still can. If you’re going to book this InterContinental deal, you can easily make it better by staying 4 nights instead of 3.
For those not familiar with the 4th-night free perk, it’s not truly providing you with a free night but instead, it is taking the average of the base rate for 4 nights and providing a discount. As you can see in our example below, the base rate is $280.14 per night with the promo rate.
Once you factor in the taxes/fees, the Citi Prestige 4th night benefit will knock off an additional $70 per night. Without the promo, a stay during the dates of our example, you’d need about $359 per night (before taxes/fees) for a non-refundable member rate. Just think about that, with the InterContinental promo and the Citi Prestige, you can knock off nearly $200 per night from the typical non-refundable member rate.
Buddy Up To Make It Even Cheaper
Now, if you haven’t seen it already, we recently discussed how you can make travel cheaper by “buddying up” and this is the perfect time to do so. While I imagine many will book this with a significant other, many solo travelers might also prefer to split the bill.
Whether you network in some Facebook travel groups to find a buddy or simply meet up with a friend, this is a great way to control your costs and still book an amazing hotel stay.
Personally, I used the Citi Prestige 4th night free benefit with a friend at the InterContinental Bucharest last year — wish they’d had a promo going when I book — and had a wonderful stay.
You might be amazed what kind of experience you can get when you stack this promo with the Citi Prestige and buddy up.
Earn Bonus Points With IHG’s “Free Nights. Faster.”
IHG regularly offers the Accelerate promo but this quarter they renamed it “Free Nights. Faster.” This is only a surface level change though as you can still earn bonus IHG points for completing stays.
You can register to find out what offers you have.
Right now, you’ll only be able to see the offers valid through April 30, 2019, but there will be other offers later in the year that might help you earn even more points from one of these promo stays.

Final Thoughts
It’s no secret that we’re big fans of hotel promotions — as you know from our regular updates during holiday promos — but this isn’t just some simple 10% discount.
We’re talking about how you can cut the cost of a luxury stay by a third when you take advantage of this InterContinental promo and stack it with the Citi Prestige 4th-night free benefit.
That’s crazy value!
Heck, we’re thinking about booking a stay (or two) as we speak.
FYI, Citi Prestige is keeping the 4th night free benefit, just limiting to 2x/year – and bookings must be made through thankyou.com (which would eliminate the stacking benefit)
Yeah, that’s why I suggested people “make use of it while you still can.” Updated the post to spell out the impact of the change.
@ James — You also lose all elite benefits, elite qualifying credits, and the ability to use corporate, government, AAA rates, etc. Having to book through thankyou.com effectively makes the Citi 4th night free benefit worthless.
As someone who uses 4th-night free regularly, this was definitely a blow for me. However, I still think there’s some value to it. Tons of people don’t have elite status nor would it make sense for them to earn/maintain it.
For those who do have status, I think the best way to use the reconfigured 4th-night benefit is to stay at a boutique hotel where you wouldn’t earn points or status anyway. Lots of fun boutique options to try. Might as well knock off a chunk of the cost. Of course, this could apply to bookings at hotels where you can earn points if you know you won’t earn enough points for it to matter.
Not sure I follow your math. How does using the 4th night free in your example only knock off $20 per night??
“Once you factor in the taxes/fees, the Citi Prestige 4th night benefit will knock off an additional $20 per night.”
Haha, thanks for flagging that. I’m not sure what happened there. Let’s chalk it up to recovering from back surgery. It’s actually more like $70 per night on top of the promo savings.
