More cabanas, no problems.
Instantly evoking memories of the jet that changed air travel- the British Airways Concorde Room has serious shoes to fill. While guests can always enjoy $120 a bottle champagne, waiter service, private rooms and a boardroom for business guests- sometimes it’s the simpler things first class guests crave- like a cozy place to kick back. Truth be told- these are the things airlines must get right to succeed. British Airways just completed a design overhaul of the exclusive space, and we’ve got pictures, sure to inspire many opinions!
Indoors
In a few words- a little bit more flare, a lot more funk and without a doubt, fresher. The lounge makeover is aimed at transforming the once (arguably) sterile and dated space into a more home-like, cozy atmosphere to sit back, relax, enjoy expensive booze and wait for a flight. If duck feet lamps doesn’t say “hip”, we don’t know what does. If it looks quirky and homely to you, that’s kinda the point- we think. But those duck feet lamps, we love them.
New cushions, lampshades and hand blown glass light fixtures are swell- but it’s the service and seamless lifestyle people expect to shine in a first class offering. While we will reserve judgement until we pass through the lounge in the near future, early word is that dining, wining and service are already improved. One new thing is for certain: Concorde Room guests will now receive handy mobile chargers, allowing passengers to move freely throughout the lounge without needing power plugs. Simple, but very effective.
The Terrace
If you were scrolling through the interior photos, wondering where the “big” changes were- you’re not totally alone. But outside- wow, this is new- and stylish. British Airways has responded to feedback, mainly that passengers absolutely adore the Concorde Room Terrace by creating more secluded spaces, meant to evoke life on a fancy beach. That may seem strange in the middle of England- but we back it.
Aside from the new Bruno Mars Versace shirt covered couches and cabanas, the terrace now rocks some comfy loungers, positioned directly outward for runway views. Grab a Johhny Walker Blue, glass of Laurent Perrier Grand Siecle (or personal favorite, BA175 cocktail) and watch the planes go by. Space is definitely a consideration in this space- but the new layout looks very promising. We’ll follow up next week, after our visit.
