Let’s be honest, if you’re flying across the Pacific, being able to stretch out a bit on the flight can be enough to take you from maybe to a definite yes. While we certainly support you finding your way to Asia in any class of service, we know also know you’ll enjoy the journey in premium economy on Japan Airlines or American Airlines so much more than economy.

West Coast To Asia

What makes this deal even better, though, is that you can include a stopover in Tokyo on your way from Los Angeles (or San Francisco) to Hong Kong for as little as $200 more. Premium economy to Hong Kong for just over $1,100 on ANA is solid but as little as $1,286 for both Japan and Hong Kong is clearly the winner.

Think about it, Tokyo has the most Michelin stars of any city in the world and Osaka has the 4th most stars. Why would anyone skip that? Now, top that off with Victoria’s Peak and plenty of amazing food in Hong Kong and you’re really in for a treat.

Dates You Can Travel

For the best prices, you’ll want to look at flights out of Los Angeles (LAX) or San Francisco (SFO) in Fall 2019 — October is the sweet spot. You can find dates scattered throughout the year and into 2020 for close to $1,100 if you don’t want a stop in Tokyo on the way. However, Fall 2019 is the key to getting the stopover in Tokyo and keeping prices under $1,500 or even under $1,300.

How To Book

Searching with Google Flights will be the easiest way to narrow down the dates you can travel and book this deal. To make it easy for you, you can use these links to jump-start your search and include a stopover in either Tokyo or Osaka:

Don’t Forget The Chase Travel Portal

For those with the Chase Sapphire Reserve, this is a great time to take advantage of the Chase Travel Portal by using your Ultimate Rewards points for 1.5 cents each. For just over 86,000 Chase points, you can book this deal and include a stopover in either Tokyo or Osaka.

If you transferred Ultimate Rewards to a partner such as Virgin Atlantic Flying Club or United Mileage Plus, you’d still need 83,000 or 80,000 miles, respectively, just to get to Hong Kong in economy.

Clearly, 86,000 Ultimate Rewards points for a round-trip premium economy ticket is the better way to book a trip to Hong Kong with a stopover in Japan.
