So simple, so effective, so comfortable…

Just like an investment, it’s great to diversify your points balances. One of the easiest ways of doing that: credit card points. Credit card points are instantly diversified, thanks to the ability to move points from loyalty programs like American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards or Citi Thank You to a variety of airlines or hotels. If you have Etihad Guest, Amex, or Citi Points, a great opportunity to cash in for comfy flights between the U.S. and Europe, Africa or the Middle East is upon you – and it couldn’t be easier.

Where To?

Royal Air Maroc flies a lovely fleet of new Boeing 787 Dreamliners between Casablanca, Morocco and New York, Montreal, Washington DC, and soon – Miami. They also fly from points further east of Morocco, such as Doha, Beirut, Nairobi, London and many destinations in Europe, allowing you to connect thru Casablanca in either direction. Whichever side you’re starting on, and just about wherever you’d like to go, View From The Wing yesterday pointed out a fantastic way to redeem points, with incredible flexibility.

Points Game

You ultimately need to create Etihad Guest Points, but if you don’t have any fear not. You can instantly turn American Express Membership Rewards, or Citi ThankYou Points into Etihad Guest Points, and Marriott Rewards works too. You can redeem Etihad Guest Points at outstanding rates for flights on Royal Air Maroc, and the further you want to go, the better the value becomes. Flights between the U.S. and anywhere in Morocco, Africa, Europe or the Middle East require a mere 44,000 Etihad Guest Points one way, and availability is off the charts.

How It Works

Any flights over 5,000 miles in actual distance are 44,000 points one way, and that creates nice opportunity. If you want to just fly to Morocco, and enjoy the beautiful city of Casablanca, that’s totally fine, but if you want to take the long way to Europe, and carry on via Casablanca to Paris, London, Stockholm or anywhere else, you can do that too. Or if you wanted to go further afield, and carry on from Casablanca on another 7 hour Dreamliner flight, you could hit up Doha for the same price. Yep, wherever you go 44,000 points each way is the trick, just no backtracking. Economy is just 22,000 miles each way.

Booking

You can’t argue with flat beds across an ocean on a 787 Dreamliner for 44,000 points, with total taxes and surcharges under $200 each way. That’s especially true if you add flights further into Africa, Europe or the Middle East after enjoying Casablanca. To book, you’ll need your Etihad Guest miles in place. To officially look up seat availability on Royal Air Maroc, you’ll need to create an account with them, and login to their website. You won’t find availability for their seats using points displayed anywhere else. But VFTW points out that business class space is so good, you can usually just call and assume at least two seats will be available, and if not, ask the agent politely when the seats are available. Here’s the contact info for Etihad Guest.

  1. Do you mean by “carry on to europe or other places in Africa” that there is a stopover in Casablanca allowd also for the 44,000 miles?
