Singapore Changi Is Redefining “The Airport” With Jewel Waterfall Opening…

Are you sure we’re at an airport?

Even if you don’t really need to, it’s always worth looking for flight connections through Singapore. Putting aside the fun things to do in the city itself, Changi airport is a place you need to experience at least once in life, if only to make you hate your local airport even more. In a word, it’s incredible. But like all world greats, it’s  not done. This spring, Changi is adding bamboo mazes and waterfalls to its endless accomplishments.

There’s already a public movie theatre, multiple hotels with outdoor pools and an open air butterfly garden to enjoy, but why stop there? Changi Airport has been voted best airport six years in a row by Skytrax; but with pressure building, the airport decided to create the ultimate attraction on top of its already best in class attractions.

Dubbed the Jewel, the new facility will connect Changi’s three main terminals, with over 1.4 million square feet of space spanning a whopping ten floors. As far as show stoppers go, the Jewel will offer the world’s tallest indoor waterfall at over 130 feet, with views from every angle and if you’re there in the evening you may even catch the nighttime light and sound show, a tribute to the stunning shows at Gardens By The Bay.

If you think that’s where the “wait, they’re doing what?” stops, you’d be wrong. The ‘magical garden’ which will be part of the Jewel, also includes Canopy Park – an area with walking trails, a bamboo maze, gardens and playgrounds, plus a 50 meter, glass bottomed Canopy Bridge.

Picture suspended walking nets, slides, mazes and oh so much more. It’s safe to say it’s fun for the entire family, without leaving the airport. There’s always the 280+ shops, restaurants, cafes and bars once you get done.

So when can we go? The Jewel at Singapore Changi Airport officially opens to the public on April 17th, although some of the main attractions won’t be ready until mid 2019. If you’re passing through Southeast Asia it’s time to look for a really, really long connection…
